Navigational Alert
Please note within Chalong Bay there are two sunken wrecks in shallow water, one is in the mooring area near the club; when transiting from anchorage to shore care should be taken in your dinghy as this wreck is difficult to see even to see during the day at high tide, Brent has marked this wreck with floats: these are two yellow oil drums, North to South orientation, the second wreck is near the fueling jetty; part of bridge deck is visible at high tide.

Chalong Bay Dangerous Wrecks
Safely ashore you will face an even more dangerous navigational hazard: now open the Sand Bar; the club’s new premises are open to all to have a cold beer, this includes dinghy moorings for visiting cruising sailors right outside the club, our club premises are within easy walking distance of fuel, water and Villamart shopping mall.
Our club is also within walking distance of the one-stop customs immigration office situated at the west end of Chalong pier.
For your information: additional charges apply at immigration and customs at weekends and on public holidays, you may wish to time your arrival to avoid these additional charges.
PCYC club premises are very convenient and a great spot to moor your dinghy or to stop for a cold beer after your voyage.
Brent has installed lighting in the dinghy area to improve security: it is also a source of local knowledge that can save you a lot of time money and effort when you arrive.
Meals can be ordered at the bar: this gives club and visitors an excellent choice of cold beers, and European and local Thai food.

Great photos, great racing, lots of wind, this year was the best yet for Phuket Race Week: the weather looke very ominous right up until the start of the first days racing, however before the start this cleared and after that the competitors enjoyed good winds and sunny skies for the regatta.
Check out these photos
Captain Brent steered the Donzi media boat to taking some fantastic photos: showcasing Phuket’s beautiful islands setting, media onboard stated it was the best helmed media boat ever provided in Phuket at a regatta.
Phuket Race Week is certainly now part of the Asian racing circuit: in many ways this regatta is better than Kings Cup, less formal and more wind, next year we will see more than just three boats of Ray Roberts DK46 Evolution Sails, Neil Pryde’s Welbourne 52 Hi Fi and Peter Ahern’s Farr 40 Yo!2 in the racing class,
Based in Singapore and Hong Kong, they had such a great time they all announced they were returning next year.

This is a spectacular action shot of club member Matt McGrath hard at work flying a hull on his 27ft catamaran Typhoon; while sailing in the 2008 Kings Cup Regatta in Phuket, Thailand.

Typhoon at Kings Cup, 2008
Last week club members helped disassemble Typhoon in less than 2 hours for storage, the two hulls slide together, mast is unstepped without a crane, all done on the trailer, which fits inside a 40ft shipping container, a very neat package.
Matt is off to Connecticut, USA for summer sailing, he will return at the end of October hopefully with his American Yacht Masters certificate to boost the member assistance services available from our club.
